The dangers of your supermarket’s general skincare range.

There are some beauty items that you really don’t need to spend more on. The lower priced items can offer similar value to premium brands. But, general skincare doesn’t fall into this category.

As busy women, we know it’s easy just to refill your bathroom cabinet with general skincare items. Yet, while it might be convenient, these general skincare products don’t offer your biggest organ the nourishment it needs.

With supermarkets offering more natural general skincare items (which we’re loving), you’re not going to find premium quality products. That’s not how this range is positioned. These shelves will be mostly stocked with general skincare solutions from brands like Nivea, Garnier and Clearasil. Sure, these are brands you’re familiar with, but you might not know about the hidden ingredients in these types of general skincare items.

Know what’s underneath the lid of your general skincare product.

There are specific ingredients that are common in the supermarket general skincare line. A few that come to mind are parabens, phthalates, benzoyl peroxide, triclosan, resorcinol, hydroquinone, petroleum and artificial dyes. Have you seen these on your general skincare bottle?

It’s worth conducting some research into these ingredients because it won’t always be easy to read on the general skincare bottle. For example, parabens might be listed as any of the following:

    • Benzylparaben
    • Butyiparaben
    • Propylparaben
      • Methylparaben
      • Ethylparaben
    • Isobutylparaben.

Oh, and if you’re using a pimple treatment (which simply dries out your skin), it’ll probably have benzoyl peroxide in it. Did you know that this ingredient that’s in general skincare has been linked with the promotion of tumour growth? Not only is it bad on your skin, but it’s extremely dangerous to your health. It should not be in general skincare products. It’s extremely toxic and these dangers need to be spoken about more often.

Another dangerously common general skincare ingredient is artificial colours and dyes. While you’ll find this more in cosmetics, it’s important to mention. Artificial colours have been shown to cause skin sensitivity and irritation, thanks to the heavy metals they deposit. Just make sure the colours in the products you use are real. Always favour the natural products. It’s really this simple.

If you’re looking for an easy way to empower your body, switch your general skincare range to Neora. Once you start using quality products, you’ll experience how empowered your skin is… how it should always function.
